my lenten promise

a few years ago it dawned on me
instead of taking things away from my life
{although i do understand the purpose of sacrificing}
i have decided to add positive aspects into it as my Lenten promise.
do any of you do this, too?
we rise again from ashes,
from the good we’ve failed to do.
we rise again from ashes,
to create ourselves anew.
if all our world is ashes,
then must our lives be true,
an offering of ashes,
an offering to You.

my Lenten promise this year:

…continuing to focus on building the most healthy body possible…

one: smoothies and eating clean all week

two: walking, running, or yoga four to five times a week
three: complete workout stations in our fit lab at school three times a week
 four: morning and evening devotionals through prayer/exploring scripture
five: volunteer as much as possible!

my hope is that these promises bring me closer to Jesus;
strengthening my love for Him
creating growth
and a healthier body both physically and spiritually
…
what about you?
what is your Lenten promise this year?
… i would love to encourage one another…

    I love your ideas! This year, im doing a couple of things: first, giving up Facebook (very excited about this!), and also going on an elimination diet of the foods I'm intolerant to (not excited about this one 😉 ) I just got back my blood work results and am going to talk with my doctor on Monday. I'm nervous, and a little scared, but I am positive that God wants me to do this – He gave me this body to keep healthy, and it isn't at its healthiest when I eat foods that are causing harm to i

      Love your ideas and I will be praying for you on Monday- hope everything goes well! I feel the same way about our bodies… so important to cherish and keep healthy. Best wishes to you, too! Stay in touch and wishing you a wonderful Lenten season 🙂

    I love the thought of adding something positive to our lives, instead of just taking something away too! We gave up takeout for Lent, so I guess that means we are also trying to eat healthier and take better care of our bodies!!

    I absolutely love your promises. I gave up fast food last year, this year I am going strong with devoting more time to studying the Bible and, like you, enriching my body with things that are better for me. I am still giving up the fast food though.

    I do a little of both. I take a couple of things out, and then try to add a few things in. I find the addition is much more impactful to my life than the subtraction though!

    I love your goal sweet girl! It really hit me hard the other day that I need to get back in a routine of eating healthy and daily exercise. Our bodies are a temple and they should be strong to do works for the Lord. Focusing on giving something positive than focusing on the negative is such a better perspective!

    This post reminded me of how I need to seek Jesus and get closer to him. I play piano at church every Wednesday for the youth group. As a leader, I need to be seeking him more often. Thanks for this great reminder. I definitely needed it! If you'd like to say hi, please email me at estherdavison[at]gmail.com. My blogger account is "no-reply" :(. Esther Norine Designs

    I usually give something up but every few years I DO something instead! I find that I grow much more from the seasons I DO something!

    This is such a lovely perspective to have going into the Lenten season. I feel like we're on the same page! My husband and I want to start seriously thinking about starting a family, so we've sort of made this year about health as well – not only in body, but in spirituality, finances, and our relationship.

    Each year, I approach Lent a little differently! I love your idea of adding specific things to your life throughout the season! That's one thing that I have never done as a part of Lent. Thanks for sharing! I hope the season is a special one and leads you closer to God and more aware of who He is and what He has done and is doing!!! That's my prayer for all of us! 🙂
