an easter basket for parks + nash

“Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune without the words,
And never stops at all.
And sweetest in the gale is heard;
And sore must be the storm
That could abash the little bird
That kept so many warm.
I’ve heard it in the chilliest land
And on the strangest sea;
Yet, never, in extremity,
It asked a crumb of me.”
-Emily Dickinson

i mention this every spring, but i truly love playing the easter bunny and curating baskets for parks + nash. however, this year’s season has brought a lot of emotions and a lot of unknowns. amidst the heaviness of the future, i continue to pray for peace and for all of the people i love most. these times are not like any we have experienced before- so sharing easter basket ideas was something i thought twice about posting. i certainly don’t want to be insensitive to what’s happening around us; however, blogs, instagram, podcasts, art, music and messages/video chats with friends/family have been what has been lifting me up most; what has brought me the most encouragement over the past week of social distancing. it’s been uplifting to see so many helpers- so many people looking out for others + people extending a hand.
whatever you are feeling right now-
it’s ok.
fear, stress, anxiety
allow them to have a voice
give yourself space to work through it
give yourself grace.
you are not alone-
we are all in this together.
i am trying to be as present as possible; to feel it all and to care for my family in the best way i can- maybe even becoming something more in the process. there has been a pause from the world we know. so i realize that easter isn’t probably at the top of your thoughts these days, but i hope these baskets bring you some inspiration. most items are available online + some are from small shops. note: i had these items before the restrictions and advice to stay home was put in place.
we use these baskets yearly (and daily) – i love to get baskets that can be used throughout the year. you can dump out the napkins (or other things) and fill a basket you already own.
or use a bowl, bag, box: all work! both of these were thrifted for under $4 each
the wooden eggs were $3 at target (for six)
the nursery rhyme puzzle is from my dear friend, julia
her vintage shop: evergreen cove

+ a car ($5.99 from cvs and his favorite kind of car to play with + special occasions/treats)

+ wooden mushrooms (to paint)

details of parks’ basket:
details of nash’s basket:
i love to put some fresh greenery in their baskets and use cloth napkins/a sweater in the bottom instead of paper or plastic filling
the bunny trail mix is also from target
for both boys |
a vintage puzzle, some candy/donuts, wooden eggs, a secondhand wood helicopter/truck with bunny/carrot chalk in the bed, crayons that spell their names (from a local mom/i haven’t picked up yet) and some rain boots (not in these photos)
i plan to put some little orange cuties in nash’s because he LOVES them.
honestly, i am pretty positive they are what he will love most… the simple things tend to bring the most magic- one of the parts about childhood i adore most.
other ideas i love:
lewie & berg littles (soft, unique, well-made stuffed toys/local)
wood pacifier clips . the weekend collective (local)
swimsuits/summer items
a jar of “treasures” like shells or stones
gardening / seeds
modeling clay
dunlap love stuffies (local)
fresh or dyed eggs
previous baskets:
a special thank you to cuddle + kind for the fabulous dolls
we have four others and the boys enjoy playing with them so much
i can’t wait for them to see these.
what are your favorite items to include in baskets for children?
ending with a reflection from our church service this past sunday:
“the divine resides within you.” – rob bell
-you are a part of me and i am a part of you-
i see people coming together in the most beautiful ways… this is all allowing us to be more aware of the real priorities in this one life and that some things may need to die.
+ a new resurrection might be our horizon; bringing new things into our lives…
hold on to what resurrects.
