a grateful heart

why i wake early
hello, sun in my face
hello, you who make the morning
and spread it over the fields
and into the faces of the tulips
and the nodding morning glories,
and into the windows of, even, the
miserable and crotchety-
best preacher that ever was-
dear star, that just happens
to be where you are in the universe
to keep us from ever-darkness,
to ease us with warm touching,
to hold us in the great hands of light-
good morning, good morning, good morning.
Watch, not, how i start the day
in happiness, in kindness.

a grateful heart //
02. friday evening we had a backyard pizza + fresh fruit + veggie picnic while we did some yard work – the shade of the tree over us, a vintage quilt, local craft beers, the avett brothes playing- and simply slowing down for a moment
03. a road trip to raleigh to visit dear friends saturday/sunday (their home is so beautiful and our boys had the best time playing together) thank you for the hospitality, myers family (we love you.)
04. lilac bushes
05. a village of like-minded, genuine and extremely loving momma friends to navigate through motherhood with
06. i had about eight hours to myself yesterday – the longest i have had in months. i got ready in a quiet house (which felt very weird), got my nails done, went to an essential oil class at at one of my favorite places in charlotte, living kitchen (with wonderful friends), a coffee shop and then read outside on our back porch (i just finished becoming by michelle obama and absolutely loved it- so much.)
07. an afternoon of ice cream cones (i went with blueberry and coffee) and a book store with my husband and boys … watching how much parks takes in and loves books (just like i used to as a little girl) warms my soul.
08. the season of watermelon and cucumbers and peaches
09. being able to spend my days with my boys- even on the really hard days, i often get teary-eyed that i am able to be with them- to teach them, to love on them. it’s truly a dream- and it’s everything.
