a mood board | september edition

it is i the morning that i feel closest to this little tribe of mine, moving slow and rhythmical together, making our way through the part of those first few hours of sunlight.  i know that it won't always be this way. and sometimes that is hard. i know that each month that passes, new demands will ask us to change, to shift, to evolve. but for as long as i can, i will hold onto what we have, right now. just the three of us, just like this.

"i happened to be standing" by mary oliver

i don't know where prayers go,
or what they do.
do cats pray, while they sleep
half-asleep in the sun?
does the opossum pray as it
crosses the street?
the sunflowers? the old black oak
growing older every year?
i know i can walk through the world,
along the shore or under the trees,
with my mind filled with things
of little importance, in full
self-attendance. a condition i can't really
call being alive.
is a prayer a gift, or a petition,
or does it matter?
the sunflowers blaze, maybe that's their way.
maybe the cats are sound asleep. maybe not.

while i was thinking this i happened to be standing
just outside my door, with my notebook open,
which is the way i begin every morning.
then a wren in the privet began to sing.
he was positively drenched in enthusiasm,
i don't know why. and yet, why not.
i wouldn't persuade you from whatever you believe
or whatever you don't. that's your business.
but i thought, of the wren's singing, what could this be
if it isn't a prayer?
so i just listened, my pen in the air.
our weekend was nice... we were out and about, yet had time at home to relax. saturday morning, i did my first mobile boutique at a fundraiser for breast cancer that my mother-in-law organized. everyone was so supportive and showed so much love towards my brand. it made me so proud of the fact that i decided to follow my heart this past summer. i really had fun helping style different women and their reactions to the clothes meant a lot.

that afternoon, we watched some football + netflix (we finished 'this is us' and started 'top of the lake china girl' - thoughts if you have watched it?), went to markets, enjoyed a few cocktails together, read, took parks to a few parks, went out for mexican (i have never seen baby boy more in love with a restaurant before... he loved it and the waiters/waitresses loved him) and then we brought home sushi last night- along with getting a few things done around the house. i feel like i really needed a weekend like this...
parks james has become even cuddlier over the past few weeks and every day he is discovering new words, abilities, and his personality is flourishing. this morning he was waving and saying 'hi' to all the kids his age at the store and kept wanting to give me big bear hugs while we were shopping. he is definitely becoming more independent, yet still, has the sweetest demeanor. his teachers have told me that he just loves school and he gets excited when we pull into the parking lot.

i am so ready to get out the fall clothes but it's been over ninety degrees here... it looks like this weekend might be the perfect weather though. we were supposed to road trip to ohio for my hometown oktoberfest but have decided to stay here in charlotte to celebrate. we are traveling there in november and for new year's so we made a last minute decision to stay back (but hope to make it next year.)
i walked up to a flower stand at the market yesterday and these flowers spoke to me- i definitely think they were made for me and have been the perfect touch to our breakfast nook. there is just something about fresh flowers. the organic feel of the blooms at farmer's markets are always my favorite.
pumpkin + apple picking are also on our radar
(enjoying fall already + this cleo dress from my shop

lastly, i wrote about it on friday, but i am forever grateful for the miracle morning challenge and my dear friend, anna, for recommending it. speaking of dear friends, a hometown friend (who lives in south carolina) is coming to visit this evening. i can't wait to see her and catch up.

...what about you...
what would your mood board look like this month?
