a french press morning {volume six}

{the neighborhood theater- so many awesome memories here! --directly across the street}
hi! hope your week is going well… i can't complain. summer is pretty blissful for me {i know my husband loves 'summer nelle'} although 'back to school' stresses me out pretty much more than anything {august is the one month i loathe more than may.} and knowing i am having a baby in five months is a little stressful - however, i absolutely love being off and i dream about welcoming a hopefully healthy baby boy this winter-- all the time. i am truly so grateful for the chance to have several weeks off every summer-- even if it makes the beginning and end of the school year super crazy. speaking of stress, yoga & cafe shops have a way of calming me; leaving me so, so relaxed. what about you? what makes you feel relaxed more than anything? so for our coffee tour this month, i decided to venture to noda to spend an afternoon/evening at smelly cat coffeehouse {how amazing is the name?!}.  i saw while sitting there that that day, july 30, is actually lisa kudrow's birthday… oh, the irony! happy birthday, phoebe buffay!
 today begins the sixth stop on our simply grey coffee tour. as always i am joining the lovely emily at ember grey for a tour of our favorite cafes and coffee shops. please join us on the last friday of each month. our next one will take place on friday, august 28. we would love for you to link-up and share where you decided to spend some quality time with a cup of joe either while traveling or in your city. in case you missed, french press morning {volume one} {volume two} {volume three} {volume four} and {volume five}
smelly cat was wonderful! i left less stressed than when i entered :) i always love the eclectic vibe in the space, while sipping on a coconut latte {with a delicious slice of zucchini bread!} plus, everyone is so friendly! a huge factor for me i am all about some friendliness!
yea drink coffee- be cool- join us!
{the link-up will be open until wednesday, august 12- we would love to see where you explored!}
here are some photos from my relaxing visit to smelly cat yesterday:
 loved this fun cat bike rack
 a fun outdoor area- however, it was 97 degrees with 93% humidity…
so i snapped a few photos and headed straight inside!
 they have tons of options- including refreshing smoothies!
 my spot in the house - adore the old doors and coziness of the space
 smelly cat?
the ceiling has strings of market lights- be still my heart.
the color of this piece- is perfect. mint green is such a happy color for me
and as i am typing this… i see my mint green tote {below} from target! ha
 thinking about starting this book? i wanted to in may and never got to it… probably because at that point, i usually wasn't awake after 7pm/the sun was usually still out when i crawled into bed. haha
{first trimester struggles!!}
have you read it?
do you recommend?
 loved seeing this salvaged beauty flyer- especially after just discovering this gem and blogging about it!
 simply love visiting this cafe!
{and i apologize for all the 'irony comments' … i think it comes with being an english teacher!}

again, we would love to have you! emily and i hope to compile a list by city of all the coffee shops you all find so if you want to find a cool spot to enjoy a cup of joe, you can find some recommendations! let me know if you have any questions!!

have a great weekend
any fun plans?

salvaged beauty {noda}

last sunday after weeks and weeks of travels, events, and other commitments, mr. monaco and i decided to spend the day together. we did what my parents refer to as 'taking a drive' .... and we went around charlotte and explored.  after a yummy breakfast sandwich and latte at the sunflour bakery in elizabeth {our old neighborhood} we went thrifting, started to register for baby boy, and had dinner out. we found some new and super cute places in noda {the arts district area} of charlotte. one of these places is called salvaged beauty... it was love at first sight for me. and it's connected to a new brewery- even better. here are a few photos i snapped with my iphone as we walked around the space. if you are in the area/live here, i recommend going. such a cool vibe and lots of great pieces. for more info, go check out their facebook page, salvaged beauty, noda
they are very generous and told me that all my readers can receive a 10% off when visiting- so nice.
ask for the "vintagesimplylove" discount when purchasing!
{*this post isn't sponsored - i just loved their shop so much and wanted to share!}
 i loved all of the feminine pieces in this room- so beautiful!
who had this toy!?!
my sister and i played hours and hours of 'store' on this same cash register
<3 vintage aprons
i feel like i spent a lot of my childhood on roller skates!
anyone else?!
we would set up our imaginary places in our basement on skates and spent lots of time outside on them as well... these brought back memories with my old neighborhood gals!
there were three bookcases full of vintage fisher price items - oh, the memories!
do any of these stand out to you as childhood favorites?
are you a thrifter/vintage lover, too?

hope your week is going well

check in tomorrow for a new bump update - week sixteen!
have a great day!

a grateful heart: telling our village

they say it takes a village
to educate, build character, avoid dangers, develop morals
to raise a child.

baby boy monaco~
you have one incredible village.

here are some photos from may 2015
showing how we told our special loved ones!
i created a basket for my sister and bought these beautiful flowers at whole foods

mr. monaco's family:
we found out on may 5 - five days before mother's day
his parents/sister's family live in charlotte
we were hosting that day and decided to tell everyone-- on such a special day
may 10, 2015- mother's day
i met melody at the sip & shop at 7th street market on thursday, april 30
she was so friendly and sweet
i loved the idea behind her beautiful nest necklaces at melody joy designs
{representing a mother's love}
and thought, when we are expecting, i want to get our moms one of these!
you can add eggs at any point - so fun, right?
five eggs for my mother-in-law and one for my mom
less than a week later... we were expecting!!!
i contacted her right away and although mother's day is her most busy time of the year...  she was aMaZinG and ended up driving to charlotte from south carolina to deliver our special gift!
i can't thank get enough.
her work is beautiful and her personality extraordinary
here is her facebook page for updates and more info: melody joy designs
we put the necklace in a beach bag (she loves the beach) with some fresh tulips
this box was her mom's/mr. monaco's nana's
she gave it to me on my 30th birthday with one of her mom's beautiful bracelets
i love it so much- and decided to wrap the necklace in that box

my sister:
my sister and her husband had plans to visit over memorial day
and i wanted to tell her in person {the wait was hard- along with my parents}
they were all glad we told them in person though/didn't mind that we waited
this is her first time becoming an aunt
so i wanted to make it special!
her reaction was absolutely priceless!
she saw the mug first
and got teary-eyed and said, 'are you serious...' in the sweetest way
before going crazy
absolutely loved her excitement... it lasted for hours, days, months. haha
the back of the mug says, 'jess' in cursive
i bought the wine labels, mug, and egg on etsy
the rest is from world market!
my sister and i loved watching them make/almost always bought salt water taffy at the beach
 so i added some blue/pink!

 my parents:
i put these little mint converse shoes, a knitted hat {for winter} and this little note in the above box
this was my most favorite reaction
they both cried, hugged each other and then hugged us
and they are both glowing with excitement.
i gave my mom the necklace with a single pearl in the nest
and my dad got cuff links that said
dad 1983 {i am their first born} & grandpa 2016

 my brother:
uncle al also got a mug!
he surprised us and rang the door bell about 5 minutes after my sister and bassey showed up
{i thought i was going to have to tell him over FaceTime the next weekend when i told my parents}
so him showing up was SO special!!!
i got to tell my sister and brother together.
a moment that i will certainly never forget.

close friends:
we gave our friends a bottle of wine with this label {from etsy}
 i hated that i couldn't tell my close friends from home in person
but shared our announcement photos with them
and their reactions were AWESOME. {love them- so much}
blocks are from anthroplogie
thank you all already for all of the love!
...hope you enjoyed our announcements...
in case you missed: how i told mr. monaco
 how did you tell family and friends?

where i shopped:
wine labels: ten twelve designs
cuff links: estylo cufflinks
hat & sign: peony blossoms
uncle mug: hellolovehello
