book club ~ etched in sand

i hosted book club last night --- it was such a wonderful time!!

*i've been in this book club since july of 2010 and love it every single time*
~food, wine, chats, autumn love, and an inspiring memoir~
Regina Calcaterra’s memoir, Etched in Sand, is an inspiring and triumphant coming-of-age story of tenacity and triumph.

Regina Calcaterra is a successful lawyer and New York State official.  Her painful early life, however, was quite different. Regina and her four siblings persevered an abusive and painful childhood only to find themselves faced with the challenges of the foster-care system and intermittent homelessness in the shadows of Manhattan and the Hamptons.

A gut wrenching and gripping story, Etched in Sand chronicles Regina’s rising above her past, while fighting to keep her brother and three sisters together through it all.
Beautifully written, with heartbreaking honesty, Etched in Sand is an unforgettable reminder that regardless of social status, one can rise above their past if they have the desire and the determination to succeed.
 - although difficult to read and absolutely heart-wrenching- i definitely recommend this book!

... as you know from my previous posts, i love autumn.

so i decided to incorporate my love for fall into last night's book club- it was a great time and i think that they appreciated my effort :) such sweet girls. <3 being surrounded by fall
here are some photos from the first book club in the new nest:

last weekend- during our trip to charleston- i fell in love with the bathroom walls at poe's tavern on sullivan's island - they decoupaged the walls with pieces of poe's literature.
*this was an inspiration for the tablecloth i made...
~out of old vintage book pages i had left over from our wedding~

total cost for the gold tablecloth $2.29

~ i wrapped the wine glasses with twine and gold/silver glitter leaves
and had chalkboard glasses - for them to write their names on from world market

our new - cute 'giving tree' board- from the shealys

  1. You and your decorations...between your wedding and this book club gathering, I think there's enough evidence to prove that you could have a second career in event planning. Love it!
